Why you should hire a professional Food photographer; in today’s advertising market, there is an enormous amount of competition out there, and when it comes to photographing food, it can be strenuous to make your restaurant stand out from other restaurants competing for the same clients in your geographical area. When photographing food menu items to present in a restaurant’s menu, there is more than just a picture; for example, there is Depth of field, described as the distance between the nearest and furthest elements in a scene that appear to be "acceptably sharp" in an image; the distance between the camera and the first element that is acceptably sharp is called DoF near limit. Proper lighting of the subject, and color balance of the dish is most important.
Images taken with a phone can be changeling to obtain the correct exposure, and Depth of field, when customers visit your website or see your menu; food needs to be sharp, with details, proper highlights details in the dish needs to appeal to your clients taste buds. We recommend you should hire a professional food photographer, when you can't get the correct lighting exposure or the full details of what you created due to strong shadows or blown-out highlights, or when your images look yellow or off color due to not being color balanced and corrected. When photographing with a smart phone you lose quality in the image because you cannot compare the sensor size of a professional DSLR camera or a pro Mirrorless camera to an iPhone or smart phone. Contact Us today to discuss your next photo shoot. Below is an example of an image that was poorly illuminated and taken with an iPhone. The image was later photographed with the same iPhone, and properly illuminated. You can tell the difference that lighting makes a great change in the quality of your food photography. In no way do I recommend using an iPhone or smartphone to photograph your food, this was done as an example to demonstrate the difference in professional controlled lighting environment.
